It’s 11:30 and you’re bored. You have no idea what to do because it’s too late for going outside and you don’t want to wake up the dog with a game of fetch in the kitchen.
I know the feeling. Sometimes it’s hard to find things to do when you’re bored at night. That’s why I made this list of 45 fun activities that will make your boredom fly away!
From reading a book, making a craft, or playing some games – there are so many ways to have fun and get creative when it gets late and you’re all alone in bed or with friends. You deserve more than just sitting around being bored!
Things to Do when Bored at Night at Home
All of the things on this list are a great way to spend an evening at home. Whether you’re looking for something low-key like watching TV or want more excitement, these activities will definitely do the trick.
Rearrange Your Furniture
Rearranging furniture is something that can be done at the night at home, but beware of heavier pieces. Do not move any important or heavy items around if you are tired and it’s late!
Try New Recipes
One of the best ways to cure boredom at night is by making some dishes with ingredients or flavors you haven’t tried before. I love trying out different recipes from all over the world – some good ones can be really surprising sometimes. 🙂
Do Some Easy DIY Project
One way to cure boredom at night is by doing some simple DIY project like making a bracelet or necklace. These can be done while watching your favorite TV show or listening to podcasts.
Wash The Dishes
One of the best feelings in life is when you put your dishes away. But not everyone feels this way, that’s why sometimes I find myself washing them at night to have more time during the day!
Do The Laundry
One of the most tedious tasks on my list is laundry. But, when I feel like life’s getting too boring and there are no more episodes left to binge-watch or dishes in need of being cleaned, doing a load feels so satisfying that it almost becomes an addiction for me!
Make an Indoor Garden
Who would have thought that indoor gardening could be such a rewarding hobby? Even when it was nighttime, I loved staring at them!
Clean Your Fridge
Cleaning your fridge is not only good for you, but it also helps to freshen up the smell of food and make things easier on yourself in the morning when trying to get ready.
Watch TV Shows
Don’t get bored while you’re home by yourself at night, just tune in to your favorite TV show or a great series like Game of Thrones.
Things to Do when Bored at Night in Your Room
When you’re alone and bored in your room, you can find a way to entertain yourself. There are plenty of ways you can do this, like with the following:
Quick Makeover Your Bedroom
When was the last time your room felt inviting?
Doing something small for our personal space is an excellent way to boost moods when we start getting tired from being cooped up indoors all day long.
You’ll never be bored again with a cozy bedroom. All you need to do is take small steps and invest in your personal space so that it feels like home for you.
You’ll be surprised how much it can freshen up your room.
Watch Netflix
When you’re at home, bored but wanting to do something productive or just want some company… turn on Netflix and chill.
You can grab some popcorn and start binge-watch your favorite series or try watching something new like documentaries.
Watch YouTube
Anyway, YouTube is also my favorite place to spend time on.
When I’m bored and not sure what to do, Daily Dose of Internet is my go-to channel. This channel has all sorts of entertaining content from around the internet so you’ll never be disappointed!
I also like to watch Kurzgesagt, they provide a variety of interesting videos on topics related to science and philosophy. With a good story and VERY STUNNING graphics, you’d enjoy science like never before. Because as they say: Nothing in the universe is boring if you tell a good story.
Organize Your Closet
Organizing a closet is my favorite way to reduce stress and boredom. It can also be a therapeutic way to make time for yourself and release stress.
Doing this task will allow you to organize not only your clothes but also the chaos in your mind as well!
Upcycle Your Clothes
As you’re going through your closet to organize it, make sure that you are looking for clothes that might be too old or not something you want anymore.
If possible, try making some fashion upcycle out of them! You’ll save money because then only have to buy new things if necessary and trust me, it’s addictive!
Make a Vision Board
Vision boards have been a popular tool in self-help for decades. They let you visualize your goals and create an action plan to achieve them.
But they’re more than just motivational posters on your wall – it’s about taking control of what is important to you while still being fun at the same time.
Learn A New Language
Learning a new language can be the perfect way to escape your boring routine. No matter how you learn it, on the go or at home with some help from YouTube, just pick something and go for it!
In my experience so far: One lesson per day really helps keep things interesting over weeks;
Learn An Instrument
If you’re looking for a fun way to do something at night, learning an instrument is the perfect option!
But if it’s not possible to make some noise, you can get portable electric instruments like violins, cellos, and upright basses that plug into headphones so they won’t disturb anyone.
Reply to Messages / Emails
If you have tons of unread emails and messages, maybe tonight is the right time to read and reply to them.
You can also clean up your inbox by unsubscribing from any email subscriptions that are no longer useful or interesting for you.
Read A Book
Reading a book will not only reduce the amount of boredom at night, but it can also help you drift off to sleep faster.
I recommend reading self-improvement books, novels with interesting stories that are hard to put down, or comic books if you’re more into humor than intense drama.
Draw Something or Redraw Old Drawings
Let your imagination run loose with a sketchpad and pencil. Draw anything that comes to mind or just random doodling.
If you need a little challenge, try redrawing some old drawings from mid-school! You might be surprised by how much progress you’ve made in the time since then. 🙂
Color A Coloring Book
Coloring can be a satisfying activity when you’re feeling bored at night.
You could try coloring in an adult-themed coloring book like Coloring Book for Adults or if that option isn’t available, there are plenty of online coloring pages to choose from.
Listen to A Podcast
I love listening to Podcasts- they’re perfect if you are bored.
Podcasts are a great way to learn about things you might not have heard of before and it’s also really helpful for when I’m doing mundane tasks like cleaning or driving.
Listening to podcasts while doing these activities helps me feel more fulfilled in my life because there is always something new coming up!
Some of my favorite podcasts are WTF With Marc Maron and Stuff You Should Know because I love learning new things and comedy. What’s yours? Let me know in the comment!
Listen to Relaxing Sounds (meditation tape, nature sounds, ASMR)
I know that some people like to listen to podcasts, but they might be a little bit too noisy for you.
Well, here are the other types of relaxing noises you can listen to meditation tapes, nature sounds, and ASMR because everyone loves those!
A study was done by the University of Sussex also found that listening to natural sounds can also help the brain to relax.
Write A Journal
I’m sure that some of you have tried to write a journal before. It’s not easy, I know! However, it can be very rewarding for the soul when we take time and reflect on our thoughts in peace with just paper or notebook.

Do you have a blog? If so, how often do you publish new posts? Writing is therapeutic and rewarding. It can provide an escape from boredom too!
Anyway, I’d like to know what your blog is, just let me know in the comment below 😉
Write A Poetry / Song

Write Your Goals
If you’re bored at night, write your goal! It’s a great way to get motivated and learn what changes need to be made. Break down the plan into small steps that will lead you in the direction of success before starting work on it tomorrow.

Exploring different types of music at home can help keep nighttime from becoming boring. Who knows, you might end up liking it!

When you’re bored at night, why not facetime with your friends? They might have the same feeling too! You can talk to them about how boring it is and maybe come up with something fun to do.
Start A Side Hustle
If you’re feeling bored and need something to get yourself out of the slump, starting a side hustle might be just what you are looking for.
It enables you to bust out of your routine and make some extra cash. You can start with something as simple as an online store, a YouTube channel, or a simple blog like mine.
Visit Some Interesting Websites
There are many fun websites to visit when you’re bored. They can keep your interests piqued and your curiosity going for hours on end!
Do Some Exercise / Yoga
If you’re feeling restless or stressed before bed, yoga in the evening hours can be a great way to calm your mind and unwind from work.
Not only will it give you some much-needed exercise but also help relieve stress hormones and clear your thoughts so you’ll be ready for tackling new challenges of life when morning comes around again!
Write A Letter to Yourself
Writing letters to your future self can be a great way for you to get clarity on what’s important in life, or just have some fun with.
Why not take the time at night when it might be tough to sleep and write yourself a letter that will make its way back into your hands three years later?
Keep writing without thinking about anything else until there is nothing left but blank pages – then read through all of them before going off! Your thoughts may surprise you.
Look at The Stars and Learn to Identify Them
Stars and the night sky have always been a source of mystery. If you don’t know what to do at this time, try identifying constellations to calm your boredom! It is a fun activity to do even though you’re not into astronomy.
Do A Jigsaw Puzzle
I like to take my puzzles and put them together at night when I’m bored. It feels so fulfilling and calming, knowing that I did something satisfying on a day where it was too late for me to do anything else productive.
Call Your Mom
I love talking to my mom. I’m usually bored, but when we’re on the phone it’s like being a kid again and just having good chats with her about anything!
Nothing will make you feel better after an argument or bad day than hearing your mother say “I know.”
Clean Your Phone
Have you ever been in a room that was cluttered and messy? All of the items are just thrown together with no organization.
Think about how much better it would be to clear up all those unused files from your phone, freeing yourself some space! Things like old screenshots or duplicated photos can really take over if not cleared regularly.
Take A Free Online Class
Want to be productive during the night? Take a free online class! There are many different classes available for any interest. From cooking, self-development, or even gardening, there’s an option out there perfect for you.
Explore Google Maps
Have you ever randomly explored Google Maps? That’s what I do too when I’m bored! Sometimes you’ll find something interesting.
Things to Do when Bored at Night with Friends
As cliché as it may sound, there’s really no better way to overcome the monotony of a long evening than by spending time with friends. There are plenty of activities you can do together at night that will help keep boredom out:
Practice Public Speaking
Public speaking can be nerve-wracking, but practicing with a friend is great for helping you overcome your fears. They’ll give honest feedback and opinions that you can use to improve yourself in the future.
Sing-along to Your Favorite Music
If you’re bored, find comfort in your favorite song. You can make an instant karaoke club with friends to kill some of that boredom and sing along together!
Play A Board Game
I remember when my friends and I would stay up all night playing board games. There’s nothing better than the feeling of having a competitive game down to the last turn! It is important not to play too loudly though, or you’ll wake your parents for sure.
Get Some Snacks
If you’re inviting friends over for a sleepover party, prepare to have some intimate conversations. Start the night off right by serving up snacks and ice cream so that everyone feels comfortable enough to share their secrets.
Dance Together
Dancing with your friends can be a real boredom killer at night! Dancing together helps us act like fools and have our own little party. Plus, we’re all in this same boat of being bored so nobody will judge.
Light A Backyard Campfire
Outdoors are a natural escape from the modern world and there’s nothing better than spending time around an open fire with your friends.
Have some quality night talk, sing your favorite songs together, or just roast marshmallows over crackling flames under starry skies. This kind of experience is unforgettable!
Sleep
Nighttime boredom might be your body’s way of telling you that you need to catch up on some sleep. Sleeping early is also good for our health too!
